What Does Dyno Tuning Do?
A good shop has the right tools for the job. Our dynamometer (or dyno) facility is a rare tool in Southern Ontario. It’s part of our commitment to getting the most out of your engine.
When you combine our dyno testing facility with our dedicated engine diagnostic lab, we’ve put over $1.2 million just into that area of our shop. That is how serious we are about engine performance.
It’s about now that you are probably asking, “what is dyno tuning?” Good question. It’s a way to test and modify your engine’s performance. But, it can do so much more than that.
Let’s examine how dyno tuning works, how you can benefit from it, and why this power-tuning method is the best option for car lovers passionate about getting the best performance from their European, exotic, or luxury cars.
How does dyno tuning work?
Dyno tuning measures the output of your engine. It provides accurate information about your engine’s horsepower, torque, and air-fuel mixture. Using the dyno’s data acquisition and engine function graphing techniques, you get a snapshot of the real-world performance of your vehicle.
The dyno can accurately measure performance at speeds up to 300 km/h. Each vehicle is measured based on its exact specifications. With four massive 10 HP fans, we can simulate real-world driving conditions and wind resistance. This adds up to the best measurement that you will ever get for your luxury or exotic car’s engine performance.
But, testing is just one step. We can also tune the engine to create the ride you want and boost the efficiency and performance of the engine. Yes, more power and fuel efficiency are possible. Additionally, dyno tuning can be used as a diagnostic tool to better understand problems under the hood.
The Benefits of Dyno Tuning
If your car’s engine isn’t providing the performance you want, it may be time to dyno tune. There are several benefits to getting your vehicle dyno tested and tuned, from better acceleration to more horsepower to better gas mileage. Here are the primary benefits.
Benefit 1: Boosting Horsepower & Torque
Go beyond a factory tune and improve the acceleration and power of your engine. We can bring your engine to its full capabilities while keeping it within legal limits. One key aspect of the tune is to ensure the correct air to fuel ratio to support the load on the engine.
Many of our clients are passionate about how their car performs and how it feels on the road. Dyno tuning allows us to personalize your luxury or exotic vehicle. We can match your driving style by adjusting the engine, steering, and transmission just how you like it.
Benefit 2: Increased Fuel Efficiency
Getting better mileage from your engine is essential, especially if you are getting your daily driver tuned. The dyno can help improve your fuel efficiency by maximizing the air to fuel ratio, helping you save money in the face of rising gas prices.
Benefit 3: Increase Engine Lifespan
Because a dyno optimizes your engine for performance, it no longer has to work as hard, meaning there is less wear and tear on it, extending the life of your engine.
Benefit 4: Motorcycle Can Be Dyno Tuned
Our dyno has two separate rollers for the front and the rear wheels that handle anything from motorcycles, front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive or any other vehicles. So, if you want better performance from your bike, bring it in.
Our Process: Consultation, Dyno Testing, Custom Tuning
The process starts with a consultation. It is essential to learn what you want from your vehicle and discuss if dyno tuning is the right option. Once we are aligned and decide to get your car on the dyno, we need to prepare it—this is a pivotal step in keeping your vehicle safe.
Before tuning, your car is put up on a hoist. We measure and inspect every system in the vehicle to ensure that it is ready to go on the dyno. After the car gets looked at on the hoist, we check the tire pressure and the vehicle is strapped down.
We use a state-of-the-art SuperFlow AutoDyn 30 All Wheel Drive Chassis Dynamometer to accurately measure over 1200 wheel horsepower and speeds up to 200 mph (300 km/h). You won’t find anything at this level anywhere else.
We never run tests on cold engines. The first run on the dyno is smooth and steady to bring things up to temperature. After that, we do a run to calculate the losses produced by friction in moving parts like the transmission and differential so that calculation can be factored in.
The dyno provides superior data acquisition ability. We can review over 32,000 lines of data from an automotive system. The data can determine any necessary changes required to match your driving style.
